Hi everyone, mom here :-) I wanted to share a special story about our weekend. A few weeks ago our Cec was outside in the backyard playing with her two younger brothers, having a great time and all of a sudden she shrieks with happiness about something I absolutely have to see now! I rush over to find shes very excited about finding this cocoon hanging from the water tub lid on our patio. It was so refreshing to hear the excitement in her little voice about finding something so fragile and special. She told me all about the things she learned about cocoons and butterflies in school last year and her fascination grew. Over the next coming weeks Ceci would check up on her special cocoon and was excited about seeing if it was still hanging where she left it each day. About a week ago Ceci noticed that our cat had discovered her chrysalis and she worried that he would harm it. So one day she gently removed it from the sand box lid and brought it in to me. We used a jar and we continued to watch her baby and keep it safe and warm. Until Sunday :-D Sunday morning I was at the counter making breakfast for the kids and something caught my attention. It was cecis baby. Over night it emerged from its cocoon. I knew Cec was going to be thrilled so I had to wake her along with her brothers right away. Ceci wanted to get her sweet butterfly outside as soon as possible to give it a chance to fly. But her butterfly had other plans. They spent hours together, Ceci admiring it, keeping it safe and talking to it. The joy on her face was priceless and it made my heart so happy just watching. She finally found a spot to let her special friend take off on its own and be free but she still wasnt having it. Her butterfly stayed around for another hour and Ceci continued coming back and forth to make sure she was safe. Finally hours later Ceci was happy to announce that she flew away to her new life :-) This whole experience really touched my heart.
