Hi everyone, we are home and some what settled after a big - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone, we are home and some what settled after a big exhausting day. We started off in Audiology with a hearing test, while waiting in the waiting room, Dexter decided to give me a split lip by head butting me :/ At least the results of the test were somewhat good. Dexter has lost some hearing in the very high frequency due to the high dose of Cisplatin he has received. What this means is he may not be able to hear a mosquito humming around his ear, but can still hear everyday sounds for speech etc. We then went to Oncology and found out that we needed to have his port accessed. We were not informed that they will use his port to put him under for the MRI, we thought he be knocked out with the gas again. So because there was not enough time to use numbing cream we had to hold Dexter down while the nurse used a can of freeze spray (bit like loctite freeze and release ;) ) and shoved the tail in while the spray made it numb. With his port accessed we went to Cardiology and had a Ecco done on Dexters heart. The chemo can cause muscle breakdown and being as the heart is a muscle it needs to be tested to see how it is going. Dexter was quite scared that the machine for this test was going to hurt him in some way and did not want to cooperate for it, the light was turned off as well and this may have made it worse for him. After getting that test done we then made our way to DOSA and waited for 2.5 hours for Dexter to be taken to have his MRI. When Dexter was called we went to the holding bay in Radiology and waited a further half an hour. When I went in the MIR suite with Dexter to be with him while he was knocked out I was expecting him to be slowly put to sleep with the gas. Instead they started to inject something into his port. Dexter was sitting up and then all of a sudden he rolled his eyes back and collapsed with a thud on the bed! Something that took me by surprise, as I was not ready for it. We then waited nearly 2 hours while he had his MRI done on his brain and spine. When he was returned to us Dexter was in an violent uncontrollable state throwing hes head around and we spent an hour trying to hold him until he would settle. We were told that this was called emerge delirium and they will make a note for next time so they can take measures to avoid this again. We will not get the results of the MRI until Dexter gets admitted to hospital next week to start his first High Dose Stem Cell Rescue cycle. Thanks for following, please Like and Share
