Hi folks, I dont do custom work. I do occasionally do art. And I sometimes do belts and things that I know how to do reasonably well. At my own pace. In my own time. In addition to that fact, I run a Leathercraft shop. A retail leathercraft shop. Like the bastard child of Jacksons and Bunnings crammed into a shop the size of a closet with a leather and medieval focus. I also suffer from anxiety. Something I generally dont feel the need to tell every soul who questions my motives but there it is. So, just as youd no more walk into Jacksons and ask for a portrait, or walk into Bunnings and ask for them to build you a house, dont walk into Western Leathercraft and ask for a custom leather product. Or try to bully me into doing one, claiming (and Ive heard this) Its not rocket science. You will either get a terse reply or Ill do something stupid and accept the project and wind up a quivering mess on anxiety, consumed with worry over how the project I have zero interest in finishing is overdue, never paid enough to cover the mistakes made during the learning curve, or wondering if when I do finish it, youre going to tell me that it wasnt what you originally imagined, or that it costs too much for what you got. Generally, if I do say yes, its because I choose to and Im familiar with the subject matter. If I say no or Im not interested, its not personal, its just that Im hampered by the above mentioned reasons and because, really, leathercrafting is not my job and I dont enjoy making stuff for money. Regards Andrew PS: If youre a leathercrafter and you do do custom jobs, Id love to have your business cards in the shop to give out to people who are looking for your kind of services. I get one or two every day.
