Hi folks, its time for us to once again step up our Community - TopicsExpress

Hi folks, its time for us to once again step up our Community Watch. Our family just returned from the Park to take the kids to check out the newest creatures perched on top of the Splashpad. (VERY exciting even without the water spraying everywhere!) I was more than a little disappointed to discover a fresh bike track on the concrete pad. Upon returning home I received a couple of messages from friends letting me know they had seen some young folks skateboarding on the Splashpad as well. We NEED to get the message out there that bikes, scooters, skateboards, wheelie sneakers, etc., are NOT okay to use on the Splashpad. As well as the visible fixtures on top of the concrete, there are also spray nozzles set in the concrete that are very expensive, and very easily damaged. If you see someone doing one of the above activities on the pad PLEASE take time to go over and ask them to stop and inform them why it is not okay. We would hate to see the Splashpad destroyed before it has even seen its first use. While we were there I witnessed a couple of skateboarders on the tennis courts as well, along with friends sitting on the nets. We have received several complaints from tennis players in the community about the condition of the nets. Also, while I am happy to see the Park being used by the teenagers, as well as the younger kids, I was not impressed by the language coming from a group of 15-20 grade 7/8 students who took reign over the jungle gym, as well as the amount of litter all over the ground. I gave them a sharp watch your language and reminded them there were little kids present, and was impressed when one young man repeatedly reminded his friends who continued to use foul language. They were also sitting on top of the roof of the jungle gym, and on the (very high) railings...neither of which are intended for sitting/standing on. Its only a matter of time before someone falls and breaks their neck. I know that they are not solely to blame for the litter and cigarette butts, etc., all over the ground, but they could definitely use some reminders from parents to be respectful of others using the playground. Little children should not have to hear their foul language, or battle their way to the top of the jungle gym getting bumped and shoved by older kids. I was disappointed to hear from one friend that she left the playground with her children one day because of this exact situation, and watched at least one car pull up and drive away with their young children this evening. This is not okay! We need to work together in creating a respectful environment for everyone to enjoy. Thank you!
