Hi guys, just listened to the new Skyquakes episode and feeling - TopicsExpress

Hi guys, just listened to the new Skyquakes episode and feeling compelled to respond, but as a quick disclaimer, both my girlfriend Jenny and I are big fans of the podcast and any criticism below is shared with nothing but love!! So first of all lets all agree its highly unlikely that all reports of loud booming sounds like these can be attributed to one single causal factor (as Joe pointed out). That aside, if were attempting to identify the single most likely explanation, it seems obvious that there is only one, and I found it really, really odd that its the explanation you were most quick to dismiss - meteors. If its true that skyquakes have been heard for hundreds of years, then we have to assume the cause is a natural phenomenon - meteors. If its true that skyquakes are mostly recorded around coastal areas, well, most meteors explode over water because most of the earth IS water. The only difference between the ones that explode over water and the ones that explode over land is that when they occur over water we have no visual reference for what is causing the sound, so those are the ones that most often get reported as mysterious skyquakes when the shockwave hits the coastline. The same things happen over land, but then they do, we see them and know what it is - no mystery. You mentioned reports of physical damage, and the clip you played clearly had alarms that had been set off by the booms - this indicates a shockwave, exactly like that caused by meteors exploding in the atmosphere. Listen to the sound in this video - the boom is near identical to the clip you played, even including the car alarms set off by the shockwave. The only difference is this one happened over land so we could see it - the meteor over Russia. https://youtube/watch?v=xSDx3NyGtXc Taking in to account all of the above, I dont understand why you were so quick to dismiss meteors as the explanation. It seems to be the only plausible one.
