Hide Rank is an item which basically resembles a strategic move on the battlefield. During an engagement, enemies typically seek out higher ranked commanders to take them out first. This is because once you take out the higher ranked commanders, it becomes much easier to eliminate the remaining recruits etc as they are now without a leader to lead them. As such, higher ranked commanders sometimes conceal their rank (by hiding it or changing it to a lower rank). This helps to prevent themselves from being targeted first, so that they can achieve mission success.
