High-speed chase races Eugene to Cottage Grove to Creswell By News Staff Jul 7, 2014 CRESWELL, Ore. - A driver who sped away from police in at least 5 Oregon cities hit a spike strip and continued on 3 wheels at 90 mph before a police officer used his patrol car to ram the mans vehicle. Then the suspect took off on foot. He made it a half a block. Law enforcement took James Carl Voshell, 24, of Tacoma, Wash., into custody and booked him into the Lane County Jail on charges of: Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot Reckless Driving Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine Carrying a Concealed Weapon Recklessly Endangering Another Person (10 counts) State police said motorists reported the car driving erratically on I-5 southbound around 1:47 p.m. Monday. The car matched the description of a vehicle that fled police in Lebanon earlier in the day. Troopers set up on I-5 to find the car. A vehicle matching the description passed a state trooper near Coburg just before 2 p.m. A second trooper got behind the car, and they attempted a traffic stop near Belt Line Road. The driver failed to yield and sped up to speeds over 100 mph as he drove recklessly, passing vehicles on the shoulder, state police said. Troopers backed off, keeping the car in sight as it continued southbound. State police notified Lane County Sheriffs Office and Cottage Grove Police Department for assistance. The driver avoided spike strips deployed by Cottage Grove police near milepost 176, but a second attempt by officers near milepost 174 successfully deflated the left front tire. The vehicle exited I-5 at London Road on the south end of Cottage Grove and returned northbound on the freeway. Speeds slowed to 90 mph as the vehicle continued on 3 tires. At about 2:26 p.m., the vehicle exited in Creswell and turned right onto E. Cloverdale Road, where a trooper pulled along the passenger side and executed a tactical vehicle intervention technique. The maneuver brought the suspect vehicle to a halt. The driver, later identified as Voshell, fled on foot on Emerald Parkway for about a half block before troopers captured him.
