High summer, three miles out from the coast off Ramsey Bay in the Isle of Man. Radio Caroline bobs up and down on a gentle swell, hardly enough to cause the stylus arm to lift off the record like it had last night during a force 10. Today was blue skies, calling seagulls, tourist boats filled with people who wanted to see the people playing all that great music. Bob Stewarts on leave so Im sitting in for him 12 - 3pm, hes back tomorrow so I can go on shore, Im well ready for it too, the same as Ill be well ready to get back here after a week in London with the Emperor Rosko. Daffy Don Allens gone fishing on the port side, Mick Luvzit is in his cabin writing love letters to fans, Jerry Soopa Leighton is in the lounge turning the aerial on its periscope contraption trying to tune into some BBC television programme. And Im stripped to the waist here in the studio playing The Lovin Spoonful Summer in the City. Its now exactly ten to three Buluva Watch Time. When you know what makes a watch tick, youll buy a Buluva! Ill be through in a few minutes and will throw myself into the Irish Sea to cool down. Nick Bailey the newsreader who just took this snap, will look out for the Portuguese Man of War jellyfish which put me in a fever for 24 hours a few weeks ago when I swam over one. Its 1966….there was never a better time on this planet. Unless of course you were a kid in Vietnam or somewhere. God bless Ronan ORahilly the man who 50 years ago this year brought Radio Caroline out to play to form the soundtrack of our lives.
