Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is currently looking at the value of Gaelic as an asset (using Gaelic to add value to a product or service or activity) and also the potential to increase its use within businesses, social enterprises and communities. HIE and partners are encouraging businesses, communities and social enterprises to take part in a survey as part of the current research into the Economic and Social Value of Gaelic as an asset. Two surveys have been designed to gain vital information, one for businesses and social enterprises and one for communities on how and why they use Gaelic currently and to capture potential future use. The research aims to reveal examples of best practice in using Gaelic as an asset and highlight potential activities that will add value to communities and the economy. The research will develop tools and resources for use by businesses and enterprises. It also aims to provide guidance to HIE and partners on how to support areas such as creating new products and services and selling to an international audience. The research is funded in partnership with Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Scottish Natural Heritage, Creative Scotland, The Highland Council, Argyll & Bute Council and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. Both surveys are available online via the links below until 18 September 2013.
