Highlights From MISD Board Meeting on 10/21/14: Action Items: • Approved: Purchase of two 77-passenger school buses and two 47-passenger special needs buses with lifts. Total purchase price: $359,000. Information Items: • Potential Madeley Ranch Improvement Project – Walden Community Improvement Association proposed a joint project with MISD to build two baseball fields and one soccer field on the grounds outside Madeley Ranch Elementary. The Walden CIA will contribute $15,000 and upkeep of the fields; MISD would contribute a matching $15,000. • Proposal for new scholarship in the name of Dale A. Dossey - Long-time former MISD Board Member, Dale Dossey, was instrumental in having the Board create a separate scholarship fund with proceeds from two large donations. These funds have accrued to over $300,000. To honor Dale Dossey’s commitment to the students in MISD, it was proposed that the MISD Board approve awarding a new scholarship in Mr. Dossey’s honor from the proceeds of this scholarship fund. • Overview of Community Survey Regarding Proposed Bond Election - As part of the 2015 Bond Referendum planning process, MISD directed Huckabee Architects to conduct a survey of registered voters in MISD. 302 respondents were surveyed, resulting in a margin of error of +/- 5.7%. The following are key results from the survey: - After hearing information about the possible $225 million bond, 67% would vote yes and 28% would vote no, while 6% are unsure. - Voters overwhelmingly support a new high school. Over 71% of respondents surveyed said they would approve.
