Hiked 18.5 miles on the Appalachian Trail yesterday. From Pine - TopicsExpress

Hiked 18.5 miles on the Appalachian Trail yesterday. From Pine Grove Furnace PA to Boiling Springs PA. The furthest Ive ran on the trail in this area has been 8 miles. All barefoot, as a reminder. Im only a year and a half into full time barefooting. Anyhow, back to the hike. I made a stupid decision to not bring a pair of footwear with me just in case. However, I made it. With minimal damage. Small chunk under my arch (not really sure how that happened) that I didnt notice for awhile. And a scrape on the top of my middle toe. Yes, there is definitely some muscle soreness. Some would say that if I wore shoes I wouldnt have had the flesh wounds. While that may be true, others wearing shoes also experienced foot pain as well. So shoes or no shoes, injuries happen. The best way to avoid injuries is to stay consistent with what you normally do. I am glad I did it barefoot, but I also would not have been to extreme to put on my brooks on if I had them. This section of AT is loaded with rocks, those that have ever hiked this section know what I mean. I am actually very impressed with how the soles of my feet held up. Remember, Prior Proper Conditioning is crucial. Be smart about going barefoot, especially if you are new!
