Hiking Mount Tzouhalem This hike is a moderate hike, uphill all the way up to the cross, that makes the summit. The cross is a Christian cross originally wooden place there is in the 70′s. It was replaced by this welded white cross in the 1980′s by the Knights of Columbus. There are three access points. 1. St Anne Church parking lot on Tzhouhalem Road, walk to the gravel road towards Providence Farm. Look for the trail head on the east side of the gravel road. 2. Genoa Bay side of the mountain, access Khenipsen Road and drive to the gate and hike from there. 3. Drive along Maple Bay Road look for a sign on the right marked the subdivision of “The Properties”, turn right, and on the left there are tennis courts. Park alone the street. The trail starts behind the playground. We have hiked the St. Anne Church trail and it takes about 2 1/2 hours both ways. The trail is moderately difficult and has steep areas. The trail is well maintained and the view is really worth the hike. The cross marks the summit where you can see the entire Cowichan estuary, Duncan, Cowichan Bay, Mount Whymper and Mount Provost. The trail is used by both mountain bikers, hikers, and hand gliders. You will pass many hikers along the way. It is good to check out the trail maps.
