Hillsboro Police Officers Involved In Shooting Hillsboro Police Dept. - 10/26/13 Two Hillsboro police officers are fired upon with deadly force during a traffic stop on October 25, 2013 at 9:40 PM on 13th Ave near SE Maple St in Hillsboro. Two Hillsboro Police patrol officers conducted a vehicle stop for a traffic infraction on a green 1992 Honda Accord on SE 13th Ave. in Hillsboro. While contacting the four occupants of the car, a late 20s aged male subject in the front passenger seat pulled a semi automatic handgun on one of the officers and began firing at the officer at close range. The officer was able to quickly retreat without getting struck by the suspects bullets as the other partner officer was able to respond to the suspects deadly threat and return fire from his department issued duty handgun. The suspect was struck by the officers bullets and he was transported to Emanuel Hospital after first aid was rendered by detectives on scene. The suspect, who has not been identified, died at the hospital from injuries sustained during this incident. The two officers involved were not seriously injured, however the officer who was immediately fired upon was treated for minor injuries sustained during the incident. She was treated and released at a local hospital. The other three occupants of the vehicle were detained by Hillsboro police pending further investigation. This case remains under investigation by Hillsboro police detectives and the Washington County Major Crimes Team. Specifics on the investigation and the names of the officers involved will not be available for release until the officers have been interviewed by the Major Crimes Team which indicates a 10/28/13 timeline. The name of the suspect will be released as soon as it is available and as soon as next of kin have been notified.
