His story starts three years ago, when our friends in Romania were alerted to a dog hit by a car and apparently paralyzed. On initial examination, his xrays looked good and it was hoped he would make a full recovery, however, over the months that followed his condition deteriorated and the courses of antiinnflammatories caused his hair to fall out. At this stage euthanasia was discussed and only dismissed because Filli displayed faint signs of being able to walk. Some months later still, he at last turned a corner. His hair regrew, he gained weight and his mobility improved although he clearly had some neurological problems with coordinating his legs. At this point we were asked to take him, and as the old and the broken is our specialist area of course we said yes. It took many months for us to find Fili a home but eventually we did and for around a year we considered him happy ever after. However, in a cruel twist of fate in April his adopter became ill herself and had her own mobility issues which meant she was no longer able to care for Fili and so he came back into our care. Unfortunately Fili now faced a new battle as his adopters poor health had resulted in his condition not being monitored and he was now grossly overweight.....which very much exacerbated his already considerable mobility issues. He was taken to a vet and we were advised on the best care for him to get him back to the best possible state of health and he has been on a diet and exercise regime ever since. His quality of life has once again improved hugely and we are satisfied he is now in a fit state to rehome. His walking is slow, but capable...he misses a few steps but he enjoys short trips around the park and loves meeting and greeting people. He has a fantastic outlook on life and does not let his disabilities get in the way of him having a good time. Fili mixes brilliantly with other dogs and cats and would be ok with children old enough to understand he cannot move out of the way quickly. Safe rescue will cover any costs incurred by his existing condition for the rest of his life.... hes around 8 or 9 years old. All we ask for Fili is that he gets a wonderful retirement home and his weight continues to be monitered throughout as if he is allowed he will eat himself into a stationary white and black blob lol. NOW HAPPILY ADOPTED
