Historic Rescue Truck From 9/11 Set To Start Midwest Tour - Host Fire Dept. Opportunities Available Schaumburg, IL 3/10/14 – On September 11th, 2001, 9 firefighters from FDNY Rescue 4 lost their lives trying to save others at the World Trade Center. Even with the loss of its crew, their truck was able to go back into service and continued to serve the residents of New York City until 2011, when it became part of the Remembrance Rescue Project. Rescue 4 is scheduled to arrive... in the Chicago area next month to begin a 4 month tour as an educational tool, historical artifact and memorial. The Rescue has been traveling throughout Texas for the past 18 months and is currently undergoing a series of repairs at Sentinel Fire Apparatus in Missouri, where it will be traveling to the Chicago area as the regional stop for the Projects Coast To Coast Remembrance Tour. It is a great honor to be a part of this project and able to help people across the country remember and learn from a true piece of American history. said Firefighter Rory Blanchard. The Project involving former FDNY Rescue 4 and Rescue 5 is an educational effort focused at society, especially those who are too young to understand the events of September 11th and what that day means to members of the fire service and to the country as a whole. MABAS-Illinois has continues to serve as a host for the Remembrance Rescue Project and both Rescues from 9/11. The Project works with fire departments across the country to host the Rescues throughout the year. The Project coordinates with host fire departments to facilitate 9/11 educational programming, memorials and remembrance events. The Project strives to keep the memories alive of those lost on September 11th and all firefighters killed in the line of duty every year. The Remembrance Rescue Project has committed to have Rescue 4 from 9/11 conduct educational events throughout the Midwest and welcomes all opportunities with area departments.
