Historically speaking, when two factions under one banner hold - TopicsExpress

Historically speaking, when two factions under one banner hold strong and directly inconsistent beliefs over a matter of core principle, it is only a matter of time before the group fractures into two or more separate groups. The Christians split into the Catholics and Protestants. The Founding Fathers split into Federalists and Anti-Federalists. The abolitionist Whigs split off to form the GOP. The Democrat states of the Union split off to form the Confederacy. Today, there is a steady and quiet, but growing, drumbeat for tea party Republicans to split off and form a new party, given the strong disagreements with the GOP over federalism, government debt and the size and scope of government. Many tea party Republicans are having difficulty reconciling the beliefs they fervently hold with the wrongful actions taken under the Republican banner. Around the world, the most active and visible actions of the Muslims comprise murder, kidnappings, arson, vandalism, bombings and all forms of destruction and oppression. It is not by accident that Muslim and terrorist are becoming virtual synonyms in the minds of much of the worlds population. A group of so-called moderate Muslims assure us that they are shocked and saddened by the idea that any violence might result in the loss of innocent life. And yet, how many moderate Muslims have felt sufficient shock and heart sickness to expressly and publicly distance themselves from the engine of death and destruction that operates under the banner of Islam, and announce the need for a new understanding of what it means to worship Allah? Virtually none. Does this tell us something about how shocked and heartsick the moderate Muslims really are by the death and destruction carried out under the banner of Islam? I think, in many cases, it does. Your thoughts?
