Hmm... Network neutrality... If their users are figuring out how to set up and use their own VPNs to get around network choke points to get faster access to Netflix, for example, when will the major ISPs (hard to call them that anymore, as they see this line of business as just one part of their own vertically integrated businesses...) turn this around to their own advantage to herd most of their users to use the ISPs preferred path to content (where Netflix is severely penalized, but their own content-on-demand services, for example, are not), which would only be available through their VPNs? They could then far more easily testify to Congress and the FCC that they do still support and provide network neutrality - the normal non-VPN services would technically still be available to us lusers. Then they could then more easily leverage $$$ out of both sides of the equation than they are even now - users pay more for whatever BS plan these end up being called, and other content providers (Netflix, Amazon) pay even more to be accessible through these VPNs, while being virtually impossible to use through the neutral, non-VPN network connectivity... Thatd kind of be hard to set up initially, but if they could figure out how to coerce their smart phones or cable modems to default to these VPNs, while seemingly leaving the non-VPN stuff available on the devices (but not trivially available), theyve sort of fixed that bug in the Internet, right? (VZWL has figured out how to do something like this with their phones, even the open Galaxy Nexus...)
