Hmm... been thinking and going through my training diary which goes back two years from when i turned up to support my son through his Jiu Jitsu craze. :) As a crusty old bugger with a bit of martial arts under my expanding belt I realized I could possibly do some of the stuff I was seeing albeit to a backdrop of creaking arthritis, a madly pumping heart and muscles that thought they had been made redundant. Having thought about a few injuries on the way I figured you start a white belt but cant progress to a colored belt until you get some blue, purple and black on your body as in bruising. After two years of training my wife mentioned just the other day, you dont come home broken like you used to. I listened when Travis admonished us to get a training diary and am now so glad I have kept it up. Upon reading I have determined I have been good with goal setting but bad with the number and duration of the goals. I set myself a goal but become excited by a new technique from a seminar or class and set a new goal. Having given it some thought I have decided to strip it all back and work on a couple of techniques until they become a part of me. With the goal of rolling without having to think about, the point of the fulcrum, F=Mass x acceleration, where is magnetic North and what the name of the technique is that I cant remember how to do. In summary, a huge thank you to Errol Watson, Travis Browne, Phil Beale and Chris Heke, who have helped me so far in my Jiu Jitsu journey. A special thanks to Rigan Macahdo and John Will for the ultimate of example and most of all to all my training partners who have helped me to slowly work my way through this wonderful progressive art.
