Hmmmm. Tough debate to call. Darling was fierce on the currency topic, on which Salmond seemed to stumble. From then on however, Salmond gained more and more confidence and seemed to live up to his reputation as a strong debater. The debate has not changed a thing, and nor can anyone seriously say that there was a clear winner. I wonder whether Darlings edge in the post-debate poll comes more from disappointment with Salmond rather than the strength of Darlings arguments; anticipation of a thorough demolition of Darling may have worked against Salmond in the end, particularly as it cant be said that he succeeded in this regard. If there is another debate, I want to see far more audience involvement and no more scripted and regurgitated rhetoric from either side.
