Holy Crap. Now I get it. This is the key to the whole series ... the last episode is called Members Only ... and there is someone wearing a members only jacket in that last episode just before he is murdered. It is all pointing to Tonys real struggle. Despite all of Tonys rage against society - he is impotent in his sought-after mobility between socio-economic classes. He is stuck. It has all been written for him. He can make some money - but hes hit the ceiling in his family and the New York families and the law can keep him in check. He cannot become what he desires - or at least what he dreams about. He literally dreamt about a much different place in society after he was shot by Junior - the entire time he was in an alternate universe wherein he was an on-the-level businessman rather than in La Costra Nostra constantly trying to avoid RICO charges. The whole thing is really about in-groups and out-groups and how we try to maneuver within and around them. Sometimes in pathetic futility. Yes - to this day - even in a first-world democracy - we dance the dance. Here they are impervious. The metal fence between Tony and his neighbor represents something that cannot be crossed. Even by the head of a crew. He lifts the weights in the end of this clip in torment symbolizing his rage and angst and ... sadly ... his futility to escape his caste. Nothing anybody can do anything about.
