Home :-) Northern half here. Just got back from a WONDERFUL trip -- and its WONDERFUL to be home. I know you understand. We first went to Concord, NH, where we stayed at a lovely small hotel, and just wandered, visited the state house where they had some lovely exhibits, went antiquing (found two teacups and saucers, bargain at $4), and began our over-eating adventure. Then it was off to our real destination - Bar Harbor. Its our third visit and we just love the place. Hiked in Acadia. Seemed like 40 miles, uphill both way, and then down a sheer cliff -- but perhaps Im a fiction writer :-) Took the shore walk everyday -- which is a path between the ocean and these gorgeous private mansions. Visited a small island, population in the winter of 72, post office and general store in the same tiny building (and oddly enough, they had matzoh meal for sale, but no meat or veggies -- and there isnt even a synagogue in Bar Harbor, so it does seem like an odd product for sale, especially since Passover was in April). But the store owner was lovely and they had a gorgeous exhibit of a childrens book artist who lives on the island year round. Tiny schoolhouse, student population of 12. After 8th grade they either take a commuter boat to Bar Harbor or some go to boarding school. Cant you see a murder on the island -- sort of like a locked room mystery? Except everyone was so very nice that it had to be an outsider :-) We stayed in a lovely bed and breakfast. Owners provided elaborate breakfasts each morning -- so we may not eat again until next week. But its soooooo good to be home.
