Hood Camp brings a whole new meaning to ‘urban’ survival Highland Park, MI—July 12, 2013: For its’ third year, Hood Camp returns bringing inner city youth together for an unique overnight camping experience that aims to equip them with the tools for “urban” survival and creating a more positive and productive living experience in the community which they live. This year’s Hood Camp will take place Saturday, August 24 at 8:00 AM and conclude Sunday, August 25 at 3:00 PM in Jakobi RA Park, located next to The Moon Ministry at 24 Avalon Street in Highland Park, MI. Activities include a self-defense/urban survival demonstration, first aid training, fire safety, conflict resolution, community arts and crafts, African drum circle around the camp fire, food hunting and preparation, and walking tour to Highland Park local businesses. "Hood Camp allows children to have a camping experience in their very own backyard, in other words their "Hood! " said Shamayim “Shu” Harris, founder of The Moon Ministry. “We teach them survival techniques and interpersonal skills that help them relate better to their peers and surroundings." Returning sponsors include The Moon Ministry, My Brother’s Keeper Inc., and Communicating Arts Credit Union. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $10 for campers wishing to attend. Registration deadline is Saturday, August 10. Space is limited.
