Hope I can get through this posting before dozing off. Im beat. There are no words to describe what I am feeling now, today especially. I had to first fill my car with gas, then to market to get stuff for Mindy to make her famous cornbeef/cabbage, etc. Whatever she makes turns out like a Wolfgang Puck dish, yep, she is that good. Anyway, I still had to get to Walmart, but by the time I checked in on dad, he was sitting in his wheel chair, all showered and dressed to go. It was actually too early, but he was anxious as you can imagine. He hasnt been home for 2 months. We are not counting the 2 days when the hospital sent him home, what a nightmare that was. Anyway, I had tons of food at the house so decided to go to the store again tomorrow instead of today, dad was just too excited, so I quickly packed his stuff, Went to the front desk to collect all of his medications (amazing how much medication both he and I take, lol). It was so cute, he was in the wheel chair as I went over his meds with the nurses and every nurse and physical therapist came over and hugged and kissed him good bye, then told me how great he had done there. So, I told him to wait inside and I would pull the car around to pick him up and help him into the car. Well, anyone who knows my dad, knows that he has his own ways of doing things. By the time I pulled the car in front of the gate there, he was already standing up just holding onto the gate while I got the walker out, which by the way, he did not use, yaaaaay. He got into the car and away we went. I asked how it felt to be out (the weather then was so nice, slight breeze, sun shining on us warm, while the breeze was cool. Very nice. He opened his car window and I asked how it felt, he said gooooooood!!! WE got home and waited for our friend to help escort dad into the house, but again, he just got out of the car, grabbed his walker and the friend did not even have to touch him this time. Last time when he had just got released from the hospital, he was dead weight and could not move at all, this time was a piece of cake. He is strong again (for a 90 year old) and does great with the walker. We will exercise together for a while. He was his old self, I made one of his favorite dinners, he cleaned his plate and said while I was there, I thought the hospital food was ok, now I can see that it actually was pretty awful. I made him something good that I got from Trader Joes, chicken marsala with mashed potatoes, gravy mushrooms, side of brussel sprouts, then another side of fresh pineapple, watermelon and cantaloupe. He cleaned his plate. I was happy he didnt want dessert. He fell asleep right after dinner in his favorite recliner which needs replacing very badly, but it will have to wait. Right now we have about 3 feet of bills to go through, make calls and pay what we can. He said just a bit later that he wanted to go to bed, so I followed to make sure he was ok, he went to the bathroom by himself, yaaay, then washed up a bit, changed into pjs, then into a pre-heated NEW bed, sheets and all. His dog, Susie, layed down right next to his bed on his side, so I had to warn him to not trip over her. He said his new bed was very comfortable as were the blankets and sheets....thanks again Ilene and Jim, he loves the bed. So, m friends, the end of another great day with dad. Even though I still have so much cleaning to do and shopping , Im so relieved that dad is ok. This place he was in was excellent in bringing him back to us. They knew what he needed and helped him achieve his goal. He will be without the walker in no time. For now, I drive, but Im thinking within a couple weeks, he will be driving again. I have so many people to thank for his recovery, God, of course, but all of my friends and relatives here on FB have helped us all through this journey, along with mine. So, thank you so very much for all of the support you have given us. NO, Im not done, I will go on and on. I am now starting to talk about my medical situation, now that I have Kaiser again. I want to help others get what I got, so I will be talking about that too. Ok, now, Im really sleepy, so until next time everyone, I wish you a good night and a God Bless for everything. :)
