Hope for Tammy: Tammy Ishman was misdiagnosed for many years - TopicsExpress

Hope for Tammy: Tammy Ishman was misdiagnosed for many years until October 2008, when a brain condition, called Arnold Chiari Malformation, was discovered on a CT scan. In February 2009 Tammy underwent a posterior fossa decompression surgery which should have relieved her symptoms and offered her a better quality of life. However, that was not the case, and within a few months all her symptoms returned. Local doctors dismissed her post-surgical symptoms and told her she was just depressed. 6 years later, she is worse than ever and suffering new symptoms and developing new conditions due to the continue compression of her brain stem. You see the doctor who did her surgery failed to resection and cauterize her cerebellar tonsils, which are causing the compression of the brain stem. He only removed bone and her cerebellar tonsils are still interfering with spinal fluid flow. FYI, the human brain produced approx. 500 ml of cerebral spinal fluid per day, and turns over in the spine 3 x per day. With Tammy’s cerebellar tonsils interrupting the fluid flow, her spine and nervous system have continued to deteriorate. Her neurological condition has worsened. She has developed additional conditions as well. Yet local doctors STILL have not offered any answers, only medications to mask the pain/damage. Tammy discovered a Facebook group, Chiari REAL that educated her about her condition. She learned that not everyone recognizes and treats the condition appropriately and WHICH doctor you see matters! She learned of an amazing Chiari Specializing neurosurgeon in North Carolina that’s saved and helped many lives. Tammy has her first appointment set for April 10, 2014. There is no cure for Chiari Malformation, but this doctor offers her HOPE that she won’t be in agony 24/7 like she is now. Tammy is recently separated and in the process of divorce due to the damage the stress of being ill with Chiari has caused on their marriage. She lives with her father, and it takes every dime he makes to keep the bills paid and groceries on the table. Without our help, there is no way she can afford to make 3 1300 mile trips, 8 hotel stays, fuel, food and $5,200.00 medical insurance deductible. PLEASE give generously and keep this family in your thoughts and prayers. G. Tom Bechdel will be collecting donations for raffle or auction, monetary donations, etc. If you would like to donate by credit card or paypal you may do so at Tammy’s GO FUND ME page, gofundme/tammymassungbrainbenefit . If you have anything you would like to donate, please private message Judy Edwards Ishman, Kevin Ishman, G. Thomas Bechdel, or Tammy Ishman Massung to make delivery arrangements.
