Hope left today…. She came in a box...smelling of sour clothes. Curled up in a ball...she did not show her face. She smelled like infection… The stench of giving up was all over her… When she did show her face her eyes were not there. We thought she was blind perhaps…. No...eyes were not there... I washed her face with warm water and she laid her head into the comfort of the cloth. Jean came, bathed her body and treated her with ointment. KC checking in always…How is she? What should we name her?, asked KC I dont know, I replied… But I have Hope that she will live. Thats in then! Her name is Hope. A Rescue out of state promised to take her... Do all they could...but not cause her unnecessary suffering. We trusted her to their care…for they too…had Hope. Celebrating New Years, I thought of her… maybe spending her last night alive. I wanted to hold her...cradle her... So I went home, wrapped her up and stroked her head and body where I could touch her. And I told her about love without saying a word. And she held on….Hope always holds on. And today I saw a picture of her….mere days later…and my heart was happy. I knew she was in there! I said out loud. And eyes….yes…she has eyes…beautiful eyes…that will see love and joy and one day when she is ready…she will look at the family who will make her theirs. So Hope left for Rescue...but in her place she has left the greater Hope…that someday we will all have compassion for each other…compassion for all living things.
