Horrible, horrible story!! I noticed this child had a feeding tube and open-heart surgery. Clearly he was having serious health issues. Having been there for more than 2 yrs when Mikayla was born I can understand how hard it is! Some people feel little ones fighting so hard for life yet suffering so much is no life at all for them. I dont know what this boys prognosis was. I personally dont feel this way in our situation even with Mikaylas challenges in life - but thats me!! She is loving, responsive and interactive, fairly mobile, slowly but surely progressing, has a sweet fun giggly personality - all of which wed never know about had she not made it past her serious hospital struggles in the early days! Im not defending these people, this mom, for a moment - in fact I think its HORRIBLE and when I first read it was saddened and sickened!! But all of you out there should also ask yourselves have you ever thought if you had a child that could do little to nothing for themselves and/or had a bleak prognosis, youd want to put them out of their misery? Think hard before you answer! Or have you even said it about yourself...If I am on machines to live and have no responsiveness, just pull the plug. Much to my dismay, Ive had people very close to me suggest I should have at the least considered that early on in my situation as messed up as that is...rarely is life black and white; more often its shades of gray. For me even in the harder early days it never even entered my mind. My whole focus was to get her better, get her well enough to go home and get to stay there. Thankfully she made huge strides no longer needing feeding tubes, oxygen, etc. Later and even now my focus was to give her the best life she can have, to do all within my means and capabilities to give her all she needs to progress to the best she can, to have the fullest life she can - just as thats my goal for her perfectly healthy sister.
