How Democracy works Theres a state called Nayi Dilli in a Banana Republic, full of mango People (Yeh Robert Vadra hai kidhar aaj kal? ). Every five years (and sometimes in 49 days ) they get a chance to elect representatives purportedly to ‘Represent’ them. They chose C Party for a fair amount of times to represent them. Fed up with their misrule they chose B party to represent them promptly replacing them with the old monks again. It’s a fair assumption that majority of them (sane people ) have made their peace with what is happening around them because for last 15 years they are being represented by same set of people (Itne seats mein Itnaich milenga) A minority section of people is not Happy (These are sane too ) Lets call them ‘A’ Party ( very convenient :P). They make a list of things that they are unhappy with. They take it to the masses and gauge the resonance of these issues among them. (A calls it Participative Democracy, B n C call it propaganda) Feeling hopeful by the visible support from some quarters,(These are sane people too), they drum up support for their cause. SO, In the next election the equations change. A gets 28 , B Gets 32(don’t ask, mayb they blive in cycle of life) and C gets 8 . So the Governor asks B party who has maximum seats to assume responsibility of office. They decline citing lack of clear majority and incompatibility of ideologies ( Imp.) for any alliances. So the Onus falls on the new party with 28 seats to shoulder responsibility. It’s a tightrope for them because their stakes are higher and expectations from them even higher. They too decline citing incompatible ideologies for alliances (perfectly good reason, atleast for B ) There is a uproar against them of being cowardly. To pacify the opposition n criticism and to save the goodwill they start 18 point negotiations. B snubs them, whilst C bends over backwards to realign their Ideology with A ( that’s what meant by ‘Outside Support’) So the onus of proving their realignment with A as credible, should logically fall on C. (But its politically fruitful for B to ask A for proof) .49 days and fury of decisions later, A B and C face-off over JLP ( OMG right? )Lots of questions and counter questions later, C realigns with B (for ‘credible’ reasons ofcourse). A decides that it has done what it could, what it felt was right, what it was elected by the people of 28 constituencies to do. B and C representing 40 out of 70 seats (a Majority. Mind you, Democracy survives on majority) , claim that they are doing whats right for the people(Sane people, I cant endorse this enough). So A, unable to make majority of people (or people representing them)happy, vacates office owning moral responsibility. So now what happens! The spectacle that’s Democracy unfolds all over again. A, B and C go back to the masses(Everybody is sane, EVERYBODY) where they belong , drum up support of the people and accumulate credibility and represent. All this for what? To make majority of them Happy and rest of them Hopeful That my dear friend is DEMOCRACY. And Don’t Ever Ever , Evver, Ever Again forget, People are SANE. People are Survivors of this battle. I may throw ‘Survival of the fittest’ at you sitting atop your fence, always remember, these are as fit as they come, BIATCH!!
