How Important is pH Balance for Your Body !!! Your adrenal glands produce over 500 different hormones. Research has shown that stress causes the adrenals to release excess cortisol - a stress hormone that triggers over-indulgence in simple carbohydrates: chocolate, candy, sodas, and ice cream, even when you are not hungry. Excess cortisol contributes to hormone imbalances as well as depletion in the production of DHEA (known as the superhormone or mother of all hormones) and thyroxin (a thyroid hormone that contains iodine). Excess sugar contributes to magnesium deficiency and the proliferation of yeast and subsequent toxins, including ammonia. After those hormones are released and utilized for your fight or flight response, they ferment and create an acid pH in the body. You will notice that those prone to headaches, just prior to them, have had a stressful situation causing them to go into a fight or flight response. Their adrenals are dumping out hormones that cause acidosis. It cuts down their oxygen supply to the brain and nervous system, eating up their hydrogen. So here comes another headache due to a drop in pH. The situation is made worse by inadequate supplies of Vitamin C, certain B vitamins and Zinc - nutrients essential to proper adrenal function - by sub optimal nutrition generally, and also by a shift in the acid/alkaline state of the body. Stress plus adrenal insufficiency causes a shift in the pH balance (acid/alkaline state) of the body, known as acidosis - and acidosis makes it difficult for the cells of the body to absorb any nutrients which are ingested - meaning less nutrition, further adrenal weakness, further acid conditions, and so forth! Acidosis also affects digestion, with consequences for the stomach and the bowel.
