How criminals find bikes to steal. There is currently a spate of bicycle thefts in Lancaster. Arrests have been made and it is clear that these crimes are being committed by a number of different individuals and groups. In addition to physical security we are urging cyclists to consider if there are any signs or indications that bikes may be at an address. This includes vehicles with bike racks parked outside homes and using mobile phone and computer apps which publish cycling results that other people can see. Some of these apps will show a map of the route, which will often start and finish at a home address. Please check your security settings if you do use such an app. Many offer the opportunity to hide the start and finish location or adjust the public visibility.
