How does the treatment process work? CyberKnife patients with cranial lesionsundergo the necessary imaging which may consist of CT, MRI or PET scans. The images are fused together and the lesion is contouredin3-dimensions.The treatment plan including the total dose, numberofbeams andtotal number of fractions is finalized. CyberKnife patients with cervical lesionsundergo a CT scan as an outpatient. For thoracic and lumbar lesions, patients firstundergo the percutaneous placement of fiducial bonymarkers as an outpatient. The patient then returns for a CT scan of the tumor. The imaging is transferred to a work station wherea treatmentplan is developed. Once the CyberKnife treatment plan has been finalized, the patient returns several days later for the actual treatment. The treatment time takes approximately one to three hours.Nosedation is necessary as the patient is able to comfortably lie on the table throughout the procedure.
