How does this read? Not sent yet; draft. Dear Mr Hopwood, I am writing to you as our local representative. I have just read online reports suggesting that Worcestershire CC is dragging our locality into the mire by suggesting charging families or young people when youngsters are taken into care. Please tell me that this is misinformation, as it’s so patently non-cost effective as an idea. 1) It will cost vastly more to administer than it will return. There will be no savings as these kids have no resources – this is why they are desperate in the first place. It will be an administrative – money-eating – nightmare. 2) It will deter the most vulnerable (including abused children) from seeking help. 3) Presumably it will be out-sourced to some “efficient” money-grabbing company like Atos, for example. Have you SEEN the commentaries on how appalling Atos have proved for DWP assessments? How embarrassing the process has become? Even the more right-wing media have covered stories on the abuse of disabled claimants, ex-service men and so on. 4) It drags our lovely county into disrepute. This is the kind of nonsense we expect from Westminster or some other frothing-at-the-mouth borough, not Worcs. While it may seem to the wealthy and powerful of the UK that it’s open season on the weakest members of society, many of us at grassroots level, working with all sections of society, find it iniquitous that the abused, disabled etc should be bullied by the very powers that should help them when society at large has already savaged them and when they cannot defend themselves. Please do not send me a form response. Regards,
