How fast can history change? My great grandfather was born in an area that had no borders in the East of Africa ruled by clans and kingdoms. When the British came over they worked with the Buganda Kingdom and bought guns to help them concor and rule the other clans and kingdoms and set up a border and named the concord area Uganda after the Buganda Kingdom. When Idi Amin came into power he wasnt happy about the british involvment and turned against them and everyone from the Buganda Kingdom. At the time there were many Indians living in Uganda and they were given 3 months to exit the country along with the members of the Buganda Royal family. Idi Amin turned the country upside down, killed many and a once prosperous wealthy green country was set back hundreds of years. As my dad was of the Buganda royal family he was imprisoned as a teen until he was rescued and had to flee the country a long side the rest of the royal family and Indians that were kicked out. This is how my family and I ended up in this country. Growing up i heard about Idi Amin and child soldiers from school. Uganda seemed broke poor and unjust. Thats all i knew about it, my parents would tell me and my sisters that we were african princesses of the Buganda Kingdom Mumbeja in my language, but who would be proud of being the princess of that? It took me 26 years to realize the picture i had been painted was what happened over the past 100 years. Before that Uganda was not as it seems now, infact Uganda was not even called Uganda and there were no borders. Took me 26 years to learn all of this. To learn my real history, To learn from whence i came and how i ended up in this country because the christianity movement that happened in Uganda after the british came deemed much of our traditions and history as evil. So no one will talk about it. History is a funny thing and can change very fast. These days when you want to learn something you have to go on a personal search. You might be surprised at what youll find.
