How is it that a person can compare his/her spouse or future spouse to people as cheap as the celebrities. Saying things like I want my wife to be like Kareena/Katrina/Shakira or for the sisters I want my husband to be like Shahrukh Khan/ Salman Khan/ Hrithik Roshan/Tom Cruise! My dear brothers and sisters that hope for such things, try to understand the implication of these words. You are hoping to get the likes of those people that disobey Allah in every possible way. One cant even argue that the reason behind such comments is beauty because we all know how atrocious it is to catch a glimpse of these people without makeup! Would you seriously want your wife to have gone around dancing in the arms of every other man with her awrah being exposed to everyone? Or a man that has been with a trillion other girls before you and feels no shame in declaring it? Why not pray for a man like Khalid ibn Walid that fought for the sake of Allah all his life (after embracing Islam); or Umar ibn Al-khattab who, despite his strict disposition, maintained patience with his wife? Why not pray for a woman as pure as Mariam (May Allah be pleased with her), whose purity is an example for the whole of mankind. Or for someone as loyal as Khadija (May Allah be pleased with her) who not only stood by her husband in the most crucial of circumstances, but also gave up everything she had for his sake and the sake of the deen?! Let us know our role models! Just because the little shaitan box in our homes says that these celebritries are to be looked up to, doesnt make them good examples. Let us follow those that have been promised Jannah, not those that are preparing for a one-way journey to the Hell-fire. May Allah enable us to choose our life partners wisely. Ameen!
