How many of you have heard this phrase from your just turned eighteen children, “I’m now eighteen and I can do what I want”. When I was eighteen I never gave it a second thought to even attempt to speak up to or deny my parents the right to be my parents who for many years steered my life without asking for my opinion. I just simply did whatever they told me to do. There is a common misunderstanding or rebellion to the order of the Lord these days that as soon as one turns a certain age or marries moves out etc…. one has the right to refuse rebel against or shame their parents and heritage. This of course is a direct slap to the Lords face especially when He has let all know that children are to love, honor and obey their parents until either dies. In Exodus 20:12 it says as the Lord commands not asks and if you notice that there is no age limit attached to it. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. Then in Deuteronomy 5:16 He adds in His word that in order for you to be blessed in the land or place that the Lord your God will give you if you abide in Him you must again honor your parents. 16 ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. In Ephesians 6:1-3 the then tells us that we are to obey as well as honor them. 6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” Though my wife and I are married we continue to honor obey and respect our parents. We have never spoken back to or showed a lack of respect for them. Though we are married my wife must equally join with me to honor my parents as well as I have had to equally honor her parents. Not so much as to honor them to the point where we should give up the path that God or we have chosen for our lives but to do everything respectfully and in order. It just means that within this circle that there should be a mutual respect on all sides. Will we ever come into total agreement “no” but at least the base of our lives should not be set in shame and to have lost the favor of the Lord. One major thing that lacks today is personal integrity you know about people keeping their word to one another. I see hearts that are waxing cold on all sides of this generation as if to fulfill the scriptures about the last days where parents turn against their children and children against their parents. Woe to the ones who have and are fulfilling these scriptures so as it was to Judas so will it be with you if you do not repent and make it right before the Lord of Host. There will be no excuses before the Lord. God will not share Himself or His Kingdom with those of ill repute. 22 So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:22-24 (NKJV) 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. Hosea 4:6 (NKJV)
