Howers Laser Cartridge Tip of the Day: Purchasing a New Printer When buying a new printer there are several things to be considered: 1) Of course your budget. 2) What you need from that printer. 3) What is your workload? How much do you intend on spending? Laser printers can run from $200.00 on up to the skys the limit. Once youve determined how much you have to spend. Then you need to determine just what is it that you need to print. Try and think about what your main workload will be for it and then consider just what other things that you would like to see it be able to perform that just might come along. Do you need it to duplex (print on both sides of the page)? Are there particular paper sizes you need it to print on? Are you printing large runs where a 500-sheet paper tray would be better than a 250-sheet paper tray? Are you printing using different types, styles or weights of paper? There is much to be really considered so give this some real thought. Once you have thought about all of that, really think about how much and often you will be printing. A few times a day? Once a week? Or do you print lots of paper everyday? Why pay $1000.00 for a heavy-duty printer when a $400.00 will print that one daily job just as well. Take a look at all the different manufacturers websites and start comparing apples to apples by all the above-determined factors, as you dont want to over buy or under buy. Getting to light of a duty printer will just wear it out quickly and cause it to fail. Buying / paying for features not needed or too heavy of a duty printer just wastes your hard earned money. All of those options add up. Also take a look at the cost of the consumables (toner, transfer units in the case of a color printer, etc.). Dont get fooled by a cheap price and find out they are getting their money back from you with high toner prices once thy have locked you in. Dont buy a color printer when all you really need to print is black and white. Another thing to consider is, if it does break down, how easy will it be to get it repaired? Do I have to take it to take it to that companies repair depot and get charged whatever they feel like or can an independent repair person work on my machine as parts are readily available? If all repair techs have availability and access to parts the repair costs are certainly cheaper as there is now competition for your repair. You are not under the barrel so to speak. Give all of the above some consideration prior to buying and you will be a lot happier with your purchase and it will last you a long time. The old saying is you get what you pay for so, make sure to consider all things before making that purchase. One good way to save a bit is to buy a reconditioned printer. Many repair techs offer these. At Howers Laser Cartridge we offer reconditioned printers that have an 18 month parts and labor guarantee. This is far better than any of the major manufacturers warranties / guarantees give you. As an example, HP gives you 12-month parts but only 6 months on the labor end. Others are basically the same but some only offer 6 months parts and labor. Current reconditioned models are available and the savings are great. So next time you need to buy a printer, consider a good reconditioned one and save yourself even more money and repair worry.
