However hectic it may have been, I had an incredible time in Portsmouth with family, friends and musicians. Just incredible! And the Mayor of Portsmouth, Kenneth L. Wright, presented me with a Proclamation and an award for outstanding acheivements and Dedication to Jazz! I was so honored to perform with Patrice Rushen again as usual, but especially because some of my family got a chance to meet her too. Plus, while there, I did a workshop with about 3 bus loads of music students from my old High School. Other highlights included a box of Chicken Yok with extra meat and a boiled egg from Mama Chans! Oh man!! And then of course, the camaraderie with the band that included Music Director, Cheikh Ndoye, Drummer, Marcus Baylor and Guitarist, Dan Leonard. The people in the audience were all beautiful and dressed to the nines. I also had many sightings of colleagues and stars including Kim Waters, Phil Perry, Brandon Coleman Thanks to promoter Alvin Keels and audio tech., Sherard Fields and especialy all of the jazz fans who showed up to support the causes of The Jazz Legacy. What a blast!
