Hoyt eager to don national jumper Former Auckland City youth rep James Hoyt is keen to represent Fiji and follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle- two prominent national reps of the 80s era. The 24-year-old who is the son of former Ba, Lautoka and national rep Ratu Mudu Hoyt and nephew of former Suva, Lautoka and national rep James Hoyt Snr was one of the outstanding players for the New Zealand Fiji Football Inc (NZFFI) All Stars at the recent Pacific Cup. He featured in all the matches and netted a goal in the final which they eventually won 4-3. Speaking to FijiLive, Hoyt said it is a childhood dream of his to represent Fiji and he is waiting for that opportunity to pop up. One day I would like to play for Fiji. Its always been a goal since I was young, because my father has played for Fiji and so has my uncle and name sake. It would be a real honour for me to represent the country where I was. I had attended trials with the Fiji U17 team but could not join them because of studies but if I am given any chances soon, I would be ready to play and give my best. Hoyt hails from Varadoli in Ba and attended St Teresas Primary School and Xavier College before migrating to New Zealand at the age of 12. He has been actively playing club football for Central United and has also represented the Auckland City youth team. Following his impressive performance in Sydney, the stylish midfielder/striker was approached by Fijian districts for this seasons OFC Champions League and reliable sources have confirmed that he is in talks with Ba FA. Hoyt however states that he would love to remain in New Zealand and play club football with Central United and has not thought about joining any other team yet. My ambition in football is just to play at the highest level I can, Ive been working hard and am starting to see interest from few clubs now, he added. Apart from the Fijian districts, Team Wellington which will also feature in the OFC Champions League is also believed to be interested in signing Hoyt. The 2015 edition of the OFC Champions League will be staged in Fiji in April where National League winners Suva and runners-up Ba will carry the host nations hopes. Source:fijilive
