Humbling. Empowering. Awe inspiring. Gracious. Thankful. All words that describe our experience as a family last night when we helped distribute the abundance of donations that SMILE Wetaskiwin collected for the homeless at Hope Mission in Edmonton. I have so many stories that were shared and met so many amazing people who really gave me perspective... They were polite, thankful and gracious and a lot of fun to joke around and laugh with. I meet people every day in my life who cant seem to find a positive in anything around them and probably wouldnt share anything unless someone was looking... and here, these remarkable people who stood beside their lifes possessions, wrapped in garbage bags or shopping bags were making certain that the gloves that didnt fit well enough or the extra scarf we said they could have went to someone else who needs it. One man walked up presenting a jacket to me and said to me I was just given what is the best jacket I have ever owned in my life, will you please make sure that someone else gets my jacket here, it is just washed and an xl and it needs to go on someone... I loved that moment. And many others. Like watching my own children joke around and listen to them talk, and how they rehashed their experiences on the way home. A gift like no other it was. Here is a slideshow I made of our experience. I know that I could have shot it better in a professional sense but my priority was to take in the moments while making certain to get images of all of the amazing people there, both the volunteers and those who are challenged daily and are in need. I need to thank Tammy and SMILE for giving us the opportunity to play a very small role in something they worked so hard for. youtu.be/RMQF-6KY4Kc Image Quality was lost on the upload but I have an album of the images as well. If anyone would like the images I will make them available for print at a download link. Feel free to tag anyone you know. The people that I shot that were not with our group I had permission to photograph. :)
