Hundreds of class 12th students Monday staged protest demonstrations at Press Enclave here and blocked the busy ResidencyRoad demanding re-examination of Mathematics paper conducted by Board of School Education (BOSE) today.The protesters, joined by students of various reputed school including Presentation Convent and Biscoe, said the question paper was twisted and hard to comprehend.Various students including some toppers fainted in the examination halls after failing toattempt most of the questions which they alleged were of higher standard. The studentsalleged that the paper was not meant for 10+2 level.They said: “We demand BOSE to explain its position about the question paper. The paper was twisted and even Mathematics experts said that they are unable to solve various questions of the paper.”Parents alleged that it was a deliberate attempt to push back local students so as to bar them from competitive exams. They said: “It is a conspiracy to force the students here to have low grades and percentage to discourage them. 10+2 examination is very important in one’s career as candidates have to appear in various competitive exams to go for higher education.”Expressing concern over the alleged negligence of BOSE, one of the parents said, “Our students are brilliant but theyre not Einstein. Mathematics happens to be a lot of students main subject who are aiming to pursue higher studies in this field including Engineering and the marks they get in this subject are crucial for their future.”Parents of various students, who saw their wards coming out from examinations halls weeping and crying, also joined the protests.The candidates from various localities and their parents assembled at Press Enclave andchanted slogans demanding cancellation of Math paper. They blocked the Residency Road to get the attention of authorities.The protesting students said: “Some of our friends have been hospitalized after they fell unconscious.”Chaos and confusion was seen among the students and teachers inside the examinationhalls as well. One of exam superintendentssaid: “Tears were apparent in the eyes of students. Even some of them were unable to speak while others were repeatedly asking forwater. Some students fainted in the examination hall. Our Math teachers were also of the opinion that the paper was tougherfor 10+2 level and out of context. I think R series was tougher.”Delegations of students and parents also visited Greater Kashmir office, demanding cancellation and re-examination in the subject.One of the students, Faid Bin Manzoor, said: “Question paper series including P, Q and R were toughest. We challenge the paper setter to come and solve the paper himself in one go.”Another student, Burhan Aftab Shah, said thatthe question paper was unexpected. He said: “Examiners said that they are themselves unable to solve the questions asked in the paper. What else we need to prove that our claim is absolutely right.”Parents alleged that the BOSE officials are deliberately putting the careers of local students at stake. They said: “There are no educational scams in Jammu province. It is aconspiracy that the careers of students in Kashmir are being put at stake to spoil their careers and discourage them.”One of the parents from Zonimar, Sheikh Muhammad Amin, said: “BOSE is without Chairman and the current Secretary is not having fair amount of competence to handle things. This prestigious institution is meant to encourage students but it is acting to the contrary.” He said that higher authorities should make the concerned officials accountable and ‘bang them for their negligence.’Students from other districts also called Greater Kashmir on phone demanding cancellation and re-examination of today’s paper.Reports of protest demos were reported till late evening when this report was filed.When contacted, BOSE Secretary Renu Goswami, said: “Let the students give in writing their grievance and we’ll look into it.”Asked whether the protests by students and parents are enough for BOSE to take cognizance of the matter, she answered in negative.
