Hunters Village to give side base The National, Thursday April 17th, 2014 By PETER SEVARA Jr THE Papua New Guinea Hunters will soon have a place to call home in Kokopo, East New Britain. PNG Rugby Football League chief executive officer Brad Tassell said the facility would be completed by June with the state of the art training equipment, currently at the Bomana Police College, outside Port Moresby, to be shipped across, where the Hunters are currently based. Dubbed the “Hunters Village” the facility would have single share rooms and would accommodate up to 35 players and officials. Tassel said the Village would contain all the modern amenities plus a cafeteria. “We can’t wait for the facility to open up,” Tassel said. “It will be good for the boys as the current stress of travelling to and from games is getting on us all.” Tassel said the facility would not be restricted only to the Hunters but would be also open for the Kokopo community to use to train their athletes for the 2015 Pacific Games or any other sporting events. “We will open the doors of facility to the local community, though it will be primarily for the use of the Hunters we will open the doors of the facility and even throw in our experienced trainers to teach locals the proper use of the equipment.” Tassel said the project was funded by Agmark and after the South Pacific Brewery-sponsored Hunters completed their Queensland Cup season the facility would be given back to the company and would most likely be used by Digicel Cup franchise Gurias at some stage. Tassel said the facility would be made of prefabricated material which would take less time to construct.
