Hussein Zahawy was born in 1980 to a Kurdish family and moved to the UK in 1990. Coming from a musical family, he learned the daf , which became his main instrument. At 13, he was invited to join the first National Radio and Television Orchestra of Kurdish Music in Europe. He has performed extensively around the world as a soloist and as an accompanist for many ensembles. He has collaborated and recorded with Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Indian, Persian and Kurdish artists and performed at WOMAD, and the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music. Hussein is also an actor and has worked on a variety of projects with multiple theatre companies in the UK and United States.
