I AM LOOKING FOR A SERIOUS COLLECTOR, COALITION OF COLLECTORS, OR - TopicsExpress

I AM LOOKING FOR A SERIOUS COLLECTOR, COALITION OF COLLECTORS, OR ARCHIVE, OR LIBRARY, WHICH WOULD COMMIT LONG-TERM TO DIGITIZING ONE OF THE LARGEST PRIVATE COLLECTIONS OF RARE AND UNISSUED JAZZ AUDIO AND VIDEO. MORE INFO: With my marriage and move to my wifes apartment on W. 92nd St., Im downsizing dramatically. I received a number of good responses to my previous message about my LPs and books. (The LPs are sold, and Im still open to hearing from people who are interested in the complete book collection, not in just picking out a few items.) The big issue now is what to do with my collection of rare and unissued jazz audio and video, consisting of about 600 VHS tapes mostly of jazz footage but also many other kinds of music and also general films that are not musical, 3000 cassettes and 500 reel to reel tapes (mostly from radio broadcasts and other unissued recordings, but also complete and chronological recordings of Armstrong, Ellington, and others). The items range from the 1920s through the early 2000s. There are also a number of non-jazz items, such as Toscanini rehearsals, Horowitz recitals, and Beatles bootlegs that have never been legally released. In all my catalog lists over 10,000 items because there are more than one film or audio session on each tape. (Another perhaps 500 items have yet to be cataloged. I also have clippings files and magazines dating back to the 1940s.) The items in the audio/video collection come from radio broadcasts, audience recordings, studio outtakes, and other sources, and are the result of my personal connections with record companies, fellow musicians, and collectors worldwide. If you are possibly interested in obtaining and digitizing the collection, I will share by email the catalog. A spot check tells me that many of these items have been released on CD, DVD, or in such places as YouTube, but I would estimate that roughly 6000 of them still exist only in the hands of private collectors. (A very few items were given to me under the express condition that I would never share them with others. Those few are not included in this discussion.) I would be willing to sell this collection at a minimal price (or donate to a non-profit organization) under the condition that the person or persons or organization would commit to digitizing the collection (except for those items that have since been released to the public) over a number of years, and return to me a copy of the entire collection on a hard drive. Let me know your thoughts, and whether you yourself are interested or know somebody who would be interested! All the Best, Lewis
