I LIKE YOU a love poem by sheldon p. lane I like you. I like you in a way most wouldn’t understand, including you. How could they? ...you? It’s so soon. I like you. I like you because you, as am I, are a work in progress. I like you. How much work must we do…. How much progress must we make…. …before you see you in my eyes? …before I see me in your eyes? I like you. Am I the only one that feels this much willingness in my heart for someone so not ready to feel that much willingness in theirs? I like you. I wish I could pour the yearnings of my heart into yours. I wish I could feel myself in you as I hope you could feel yourself in me. I like you. Would time stand still for a moment? That moment when a kiss could be stolen, despite being offered by our willing lips. I like you. Why now? The now that seems so fleeting and moves to the next now, like I imagine you flowing like water. Why you? The you that seems so closed, to protect the heart that is so frail. I like you. The you I don’t even know. The you I have only seen in snapshots. The you I haven’t met. The you with whom I barely speak. The you that lives at a distance, yet silently calls me home every night. I like you. Thoughts of you swirl through my head, like a whirlpool into a black hole. The black hole that could be…. …us. DAMN! I like you. I hope you know. How could you not, right? Sigh…. I like you. © 2013
