Authorities are asking for help in the investigation of a bicycle accident last week that left a teenager hospitalized, Benicia police Lts. Frank Hartig and Mike Greene said Monday. The accident happened just before 7 p.m. July 16 when the boy was riding his bicycle on West Seventh Street going toward Military West, they said. As the bicyclist went south near Cheryl Drive, a vehicle turned right from West Seventh Street onto Cheryl Drive in front of the bike rider, police said. “The initial investigation has determined the bicyclist applied his brakes in an effort to avoid striking the car making the turn in front of him,” Greene and Hartig said in the department’s news release about the accident. The boy was thrown from the bicycle and sustained serious injuries, they said. The vehicle making the turn didn’t stop, and left the area. Other motorists who saw the crash stopped and helped the teenager, who was sent to an area hospital for treatment, and now is recuperating at home, police said.
