I SPONSORED JOAN’S BIRTHDAY PARTY. Joan was a widow and for - TopicsExpress

I SPONSORED JOAN’S BIRTHDAY PARTY. Joan was a widow and for some reason I took a liking to her, she may have reminded me of Carol. Her birthday was coming up, and she wanted a party but had no money for it. I decided to sponsor the party for her, all that was needed was fifteen dollars. Guy name Kevin offered to pay $5.00 if I paid the same, Barry Carter offered to pay the other five. I would get a decorated birthday cake and candles, it was a three way deal. Cake would cost $10.00 or whatever, candles extra. I would cover the price of anything over fifteen dollars. I felt generous because I had money to spare, and I wanted to spend some of it. It’s not the first time that I felt charitable like that. Joan heard about it and agreed on it. When the fateful day came, neither Kevin, nor Barry Carter would pay up while pretending they don’t have the money. I spent my own money by getting a birthday cake, the candles were not available. I searched around and managed to find them. Those two promised to pay me after the birthday. I think I spent about $18.00 or thereabout. Lunch time came, I delivered the Black Forest birthday cake. I had enough candles to make up for her age. I put them all over the birthday cake, everybody was invited, and happy birthday was sung to her. People had to supply their own drinks. Joan’s son, Gordon had a carton of stubby’s that he donated for his mother’s birthday. I supplied a bottle of Tawny Port and had a glass of it. I gave the rest to Joan. Everybody had some birthday cake, even Gordon’s black Jin wife. At seven in the evening, some drunk from the units next door started becoming abusive at Joan for the loud music and singing. She yelled back to him, it’s my birthday party. He started going on about wanting to sleep, and invoking the anti noise act. Hang on I called out, the noise abatement does not apply until eleven PM, it is only seven, so shut up and put up. I approached Kevin the next day and asked him for his $5.00 sponsorship, he refused to pay up and pretended to Joan that I was after his money, she lent him the money to pay me back and she would get it from him on the day when he gets his pension. Barry Carter vanished into hiding and never paid up his share at all. I didn’t bother pursuing him for it because I had more money than he did, so I forgave him for it.
