I absolutely love the fact that Seattle has freedom Of expression and art in their streets .. Its a city with such a diverse culture and has the most interesting festivals .. Not like San Diego where the only thing that is diverse, creative and different are the little events that happen in Hillcrest .. Ive experienced coming across their winter solstice festival and parade in Fremont where hundreds of participants are painted in different bright colors, while naked, riding their bikes through town celebrating the winter solstice ... Ive experienced their Folk festival where it seemed like thousands of attendees In Seattle gather in one huge park to celebrate the folk history .. With live performers every corner, art tables and merchandise of craft made jewelry, Gadgets, and outwear sold As well as people sitting on picnic blankets enjoying vendors food and the beautiful sunny day .. I havent gotten to experience every festival but they all seemed so interesting and unique because everyone would attend these events and its like youre apart of the community in one big city and the main thing about it is that you dont have to pay to attend these events.. Or drive out somewhere hidden or too far. Its free to the public! Which makes it lot more lovelier in the experience. This is called the Luminata festival that happens once a year after every summer and I think this is awesome. People gather in green lake for a light festival parade to say good by to the last few days of Summer and welcoming in the solstice equinox. Gotta love it ! I just want to live in a city that is alive like this one :) ! On the heels of the joyful & exuberant 26th annual Fremont Solstice Parade, the Fremont Arts Council will celebrate the autumnal equinox on September 21st with the sweet & illuminating ‘Luminata’ lantern parade around Green Lake Park in Seattle. We meet at dusk around 7pm at the Boat House on the South shores of Green Lake Park. We are right near the old amphi-theater. The parade assembles at the Lake for a Fire performance and ritual then begins to parade around to a secret location a third of the way around. The fall equinox is a wonderful time for celebrating the change of seasons. Many traditions around the world recognize the last days of the productive summer are about to shift into the dark and introspective time of winter. Lanterns are a beautiful symbol of our spirit as a community that will sustain us through the cold months.
