I absolutely love this clip. Shaykh Al-Dedew is visiting the guardian of the chamber of the prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam in Medinah, Abd-Alfattah Al-Umari (descendant of Umar ibn Alkhattab), who has been in that position for over 35 years. He answers a lot of questions regarding the blessed chamber of the prophet and then asks Shaykh Al-Dedew a fiqh question at the 8:45 mark...the year before he was hospitalized two days before Ramadan and was instructed by his doctor not to fast, and now an upcoming Ramadan was arriving and he STILL was not able to fast. He could not even get the words out without almost breaking down in tears...his face shows so much pain. Shaykh Al-Dedew rushed to console him saying that there was no blame on him if the doctors orders were for him not to fast and that he in fact should not fast. There is a pleasure to worship, there is a love that is involved in worship, and hence, when people on the outside look at Muslims actually being excited about the arrival of Ramadan, they dont understand how we could look at an upcoming summer event foregoing water and food with anything other than dread and apprehension. But whether its players in the world cup or sickly individuals playing around with their dosage timings so that they could continue to fast and everyone in between, they are looking forward to the spiritual nourishment that the fast brings. Its also a reminder that there are those who can not fast and their hearts ache due to it, so we should be thankful if we are in a position to. Allahumma balighna Ramadan. - Ammar
