I admit it, Im not really a handbag person. For the most part, I really tried to avoid carrying a handbag. I much prefer to use the school bag or the laptop bag, more ergonomic. Sometime ago, for some strange reason, maybe it was peer pressure, or maybe it was a fashion statement, I cant remember, (it was around 2010) I caved in and bought myself a handbag. Nothing too fancy, certainly not a Prada or a Birkins. Just a handbag that was decent enough to bring to work, meetings and seminars. Every year or so, when the handbag was worn I would give it to the maid and buy a new one. Then sometime last year, a doctor was mugged on her way back from work. She was an O&G doctor and had finished her work in the middle of the night. As she was approaching or entering her car, thieves tried to snatch her handbag. She resisted and in the scuffle they slashed her and got away with her handbag. Since that fateful day, I no longer use my handbag. It has become a piece of the furniture at home. I think handbags are a health hazard. The last time I used my handbag was when I visited the Parliament, because I thought it was safe there. My sister and another friend suffered the same type of crime, their car had the front seat passenger window smashed and the motorcyclist speed off with their handbags when stopping at the red traffic light. Very important ladies, please hide your handbags and other valuable items when travelling in the car. Stay safe ladies.
