I advocate passion and dedication to the pursuit of short-term goals... (1) Be micro-ambitious...put your head down and work with pride on whatever is in front of you...you never know where you might end up...Just beware that the next worthy pursuit will probably be in your periphery...which is why you should be careful of long-term dreams...if you focus too far of whats in front of you, you wont see the shiny thing out the corner of your eye... (2) Dont seek happiness...keep busy and aim to make someone else happy, and you might find that you get some as a side effect. (3) Take care of your body, youre gonna need it...there is an inverse correlation between depression and excercise...RUN, my beautiful intellectuals, RUN! (4) Be hard on your opinions...We must think critically and not just about the ideas of others..be hard on your beliefs...Be intellectually rigorous...Identify your biases, your prejudices, your privileges. (5) Please dont make the mistake of thinking that arts and science are at odds with one another...that is a recent stupid and damaging idea. You dont have to be unscientific to make beautiful arts, to write beautiful things (YES). If you need proof: Twain, Douglas Adams, Vonnegut, Sagen, Shakespeare, Dickens. Science is not a body of knowledge, nor a belief system. t is just a term which describes human kinds incremental acquisition of understanding through observation. Science is AWESOME. The arts and sciences need to work together to improve how science is communicated. (LOVE THIS.)
