I agree! People think if they dont register to vote they dont have to show up for jury duty. Others think they can move around and not change their address on their drivers license. There are many reasons to keep your address updated at the drivers license dept and postal services... one of which is so that city, county, state & governmental offices may contact you appropriately and in a timely manner. It does not matter where you are or why... this government was built on every member doing their part. When those who skip out on jury duty end up in jail and find themselves awaiting a jury trial in order to start serving a long sentence or be found not guilty and go home to their families, are put off and incarcerated for many additional months just simply because the jurors called are a no show... they will learn first hand why their appearance is so crucial! I say round them up... but be certain the courts can prove the individuals were notified in a timely manner. Winkler County had juror selection on Tuesday where they were very unsuccessful in numbers. Many were no shows and many others showed up to court Tuesday with their notices in their hand where they were recieved in the mail Monday, which was not picked up until after courthouse hours due to work schedules, and a few saw their names in the county paper but never were notified personally. Wow! Yet and still a court case that continues to be put off while one man awaits the moment for the state to prove his guilt or the state to fail to prove him guilty and show his innocence, has yet again remained incarcerated for what can be at minimum, another month, simply because the jurors failed to appear and there were so many biases. Sad but true. Unfortunately, most of you will be in a situation where you may need a jury or maybe just a fair judicial system that supports the fact that you are innocent until proven guilty. Many wonderful people turn bad, make poor choices, or are pushed beyond limits for various reasons and commit a crime. Sometimes it is a poor choice and other times it is a scenario that occurs so rapidly that they have no opportunity to think clearly or consider consequences. They see only that moment of fright, danger, and emotional overflow. I pray that each person asked to be a juror remembers that every situation is different and so is each person. We can think we may act a certain way given certain circumstances, but we truly do not know for certain until it is happening to us! Show up to do your civic duty to fellow men, your community, and your government! Be honest and be just!
